Hi! I am Recruiter Sales Trainer at Fusion Medical Staffing and I have been in the industry for 15 years. In my position as the Recruiter Sales Trainer, I would like to share a few helpful tips for new recruiters from my knowledge base:
1. Study the information you are given.
You do not have to have a medical background to do the job, but it certainly helps to be willing to learn about it. An ambitious attitude can go a long way.
2. Never be afraid to ask questions!
Ask your mentor, your traveler, a senior recruiter or your manager any questions that you have. Questions help you learn!
3. Have patience – your timeline is not their timeline.
You don’t know what the personal and professional schedule is for everybody, so being patient and understanding is key. You have no control over when people get things done for you. They may be working 3 on 3 off!
4. Be persistent – a medical traveler’s day can be so much more critical than our job.
If they don’t call you back right away or even for a day or two, understand that they are not “ghosting” you. A bad day means loves may have been lost; they need to decompress.
5. Work harder than everyone else around you.
Set yourself apart from the rest with your work ethic! Hard work is noticed.
6. Understand the daily “grind” of the job.
Some days, no one answers the phone or replies to your texts. It’s easy to get down on these days, but tomorrow is a new day to get up and get after it!
7. Hold yourself accountable.
Self-accountability is something that we are not generally accustomed to at a job. Other professions tell us when to do this and when not to do this. Not in recruiting! You manage your time and you are responsible for yourself!
8. Your travelers love to talk about their jobs.
They are naturally going to want to help you know what they do. Listen and soak in the knowledge. Knowing their day means you can be a better recruiter.
9. All you can control is your attitude and your effort.
If you keep your attitude positive and your efforts high, you will most likely succeed.
This is not the easiest job in the world, and it takes a special kind of person to be successful!
